Frequently asked questions

About this place — the answers are all here.

StarFish is an open hardware community for makers and embedded developers. Share projects and build logs in the forum, flash firmware directly in the browser, browse the community firmware library, and discuss technical questions with other members.

Three main things: 1) Publish projects, build logs and process notes in the Workshop category of the forum. 2) Use the web tools — a browser-based flasher, a firmware store and a serial monitor — with nothing to install. 3) Ask questions, share work and remix other people's projects in the community forum.

No. The StarFish web flasher runs entirely in the browser: connect your board with a USB cable, pick a firmware and hit flash. Note that no browser on iOS can flash, because WebUSB and Web Serial are unavailable in WebKit; Chrome and Edge on desktop work best.

The web flasher and firmware store currently support HiSilicon WS63 / BS21E. The forum covers ESP32, STM32, RP2040, Arduino, CH32V, nRF52 and more. For other platforms, keep using the vendor toolchain.
